Its always fun traveling. It's also more fun if you enrich yourself with additional knowledge about the history of the country you are visiting. Its always amazing to look back to events that serves as the countries foundation to who they are now and will be the backbone for building their future.
When I visited Malaysia last April 19-22, 2012, my friends and I took time to visit this places and one of these historical sites they have is the Sultak Abdul Samad Building.
The structure took its name from Sultan Abdul Samad, the reigning sultan of Selangor at the time when the construction begin.
It was design by A.C Norman and built in 1848-1847 to house several important government department during British Administration.
AC Norman spent time in Africa and saw Muslim Mosques in India which led him to use Moorish Architecture in the building's design.
This Moorish-inspired building topped by a shiny copper dome and a 40m high clock tower.
It housed several important government departments during the British Administration. This heritage building is now occupied by the Ministry of Information, Communication, and Culture. It also serves as the gathering point for National Day Parades, Independence day of Malaysia on August 31 and New Year Countdown celebrations.
If you plan to visit this place, be sure to bring sunblock with you or hat perhaps so you wont get burned while you are hovering around the Sultan Abdul Building most especially from April-May. Because if you will not bring any of these things, you will really feel the scorching heat of the sun plus the humidity.
The next time you plan to visit Malaysia. Try to visit the Sultan Abdul Building. Located in Front of Detaran Merdeka (Independence Square) and the Royal Selangor Club by Jalan Raja in KL, Malaysia.
